IRF President's report October 2001

zpráva manažera pro mistrovství světa v rogainingu

zabalená Zpráva prezidenta Mezinárodní asociace rogainingu (zip) dokument ve Wordu - zde

The International Rogaining Federation was incorporated in the State of Victoria (Australia) in October 2000 following acceptance of the IRF Constitution on 30 June 2000. After incorporation, the constitution has been amended to include all the changes requested by the Australian Rogaining Association following a fruitful meeting in February 2001.

The IRF has received a loan of $1500 to allow continued activity until funds arrive in 2002 from the World Rogaining Championships. The major expenditure has been the IRF Newsletter as a means of international communication in the sport.

Representation on the International Rogaining Federation has increased significantly during the year with Czech and Canada members and the World Championships Manager joining at incorporation, and USA and northern Europe joining in early 2001. At the time of this report, countries and areas represented by IRF Membership are: Czech Republic, Australia, Canada, USA and northern Europe. Countries represented by Observers are: China, Sweden, New Zealand, Finland, Estonia and Russia. The Australian Rogaining Association has been invited to join and has requested that the IRF consider some further aspects of the constitution.

The location for the 6th World Rogaining Championships was decided during the year by a vote of IRF Members choosing between China, South Australia, and Arizona (USA) with the latter being successful. The vote process was especially pleasing as each proposal had some strong reasons in its favour, and members spent the time to understand each proposal, ask questions, and vote on the basis of which proposal would benefit rogainers worldwide and the sport as a whole.

A quick summary of rogaining activity indicates the growth of rogaining internationally since inception of the IRF. Sweden continues to hold regular rogaines with growth in the sport around Stockholm. In Russia, the Perm Rogaining Association held the first Russian Rogaining Championships in August 2001, and is planning Northern European Rogaining Championships in 2003. Meanwhile the Czech Republic is preparing for the 5th World Rogaining Championships in 2002. In Australia, the 6- and 12-hour rogaines continue to be popular with increasing junior numbers, and the major 24-hour rogaines are attracting growing numbers demonstrated by the 600 participants at the 2001 Australian Rogaining Championships. New Zealand teams are becoming regular visitors at these national championships since the contacts made during the 2000 World Rogaining Championships in New Zealand. Rogaining events are held regularly in Canada and USA. Their members attend World Rogaining Championships and have applied successfully to hold 6WRC but as yet have no formal national rogaining structures to provide the longer term continuity as witnessed in Australia. The international representation at several major rogaines in both the northern and southern hemispheres is assisting greatly in unified procedures and rules, increased standards, and closer personal contacts and understanding.
